How Sophos Kids handles your family's information, in plain language.
Last updated: July 16, 2026
The short version
Sophos Kids is a private memory keeper for your family. You record moments about your children; we keep them safe and show them only to the family members you invite. Once a day, we read the words in that day's new moments to write your morning digest. Once a week, we use the week's digest summaries and the answers your family chose to submit to prepare a look back and a guide for the week ahead. Your family's data belongs to your family. We never sell it, show ads, or use it to track you.
What we collect
We collect only what the app needs to work:
- Your account — your email address (how you sign in), your display name, and an optional avatar photo.
- Your family — the family name, each member's role, your time zone, and your language.
- Your children — for each child, their name, birthday, and an optional avatar photo. You enter this, not the child.
- What you record — your moments: their text, photos, and videos, along with when they happened, who recorded them, and any optional place you attach.
- What your family answers — words, choices, and photos your family chooses to submit in response to the weekly questions.
- What the service creates — your morning digests, your children's skill maps, and your weekly guides and reviews.
- Feature state — whether a member opened or dismissed a morning digest or weekly guide, so celebrations and reminders happen once and that state follows the member across devices.
- Voice transcription, only when you ask for it — voice memos are stored on your phone. If you tap To text, a temporary copy of that recording is sent for transcription and deleted after the text comes back.
- Technical basics — a device push token so we can send the notifications you enable or request, and the one-time codes we email you to sign in.
We do not collect continuous or background location, health or financial data, your browsing or search history, or any advertising identifiers.
How we use it
We use your information only to run Sophos Kids:
- To keep your record safe and show it to the family members you invite.
- To sign you in.
- To send the notifications you enable — morning digests, weekly-guide updates, and alerts about moments added by another family member — plus the export-ready notice you explicitly request.
- To read the words in each day's new moments, once a day, and write your digest and update the skill map.
- To review the context from the past week and the answers your family submitted, then prepare the weekly review, guide, and questions.
- To remember which digests and weekly guides you opened or dismissed, so the app does not repeat celebrations or reminders.
- To transcribe a voice memo into an editable draft when you choose To text.
Nothing about your child is used for anything else.
The daily and weekly reads, and voice transcription
Once a day, after the day ends, the words in that day's new moments are sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to write your digest and notice the skills inside them. Photos and videos are represented only as attachment markers; those media files are not sent for the daily read. Saving a moment triggers nothing on its own; the read happens later, quietly, and only for days that had moments.
Once a week, digest summaries, the answers your family chose to submit, and summary notes from I've seen this observations that were not saved as moments are sent to Anthropic to review the week and prepare the next weekly guide. Photos attached to weekly answers are included because your family submitted them for that review; unrelated moment media is not.
If you choose To text for a voice memo, a temporary copy of that audio is sent to our transcription provider, OpenAI, to create an editable draft. It is deleted after the text comes back and is never added to the family record. These providers process the data only to provide the features described here. The data is never sold or used for advertising.
Who else touches your data
We never sell your data and we show no ads. To run the service we rely on a small number of infrastructure providers, who process your data only on our behalf and only to make Sophos Kids work:
- Hosting and media (photo and video) storage.
- Our database.
- Email delivery, for your sign-in codes.
- Push-notification delivery.
- Background processing, which runs the daily and weekly reads and prepares your exports.
- The AI providers (Anthropic and OpenAI) described above.
Your children's information
Sophos Kids is made for parents and the other adults they invite. Children do not have accounts and do not use the app. The information about your children is entered by you and your invited members, is private to your family, and is never public, never used for advertising, and never sold. You are responsible for the children whose moments you record.
Your controls
Your record is yours to take or erase, at any time:
- Export — any member can export the family's moments, photos, videos, and digests as one archive you can read without the app.
- Delete — a moment is deleted instantly; a child is deleted instantly; a family or your whole account is deleted after a 14-day grace period you can cancel. After the grace, it is permanently gone.
Keeping it safe, and how long we keep it
Your data is encrypted in transit, and access is limited to your family and the providers above. We keep your information until you delete it; once a deletion's 14-day grace passes, it is erased permanently.
Changes and contact
If our practices change, we'll update this page and the date above. Questions about your privacy are welcome at support@sophos.kids.
